Right before heading back to LA, I had successfully finished my first ever run of business cards using letterpress.
From print to cut to finish, these are all “hand made,” using the Vandercook Universal I proofing press, which is pretty much an analog copy machine, that dates back to the 60’s and was used to proof layouts for newspapers and other forms of print.
For the last few months I’ve been taking continuing ed classes at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. With this, I have convenient access to their incredible facilities while also expanding my range of printmaking techniques. The most recent course taken was Letterpress, in which we learned traditional printing using both wood and metal type, as well as new techniques such as photo polymer plates (a more customizable technique, which was used for this particular project.)
